ocr: Libya Libya was mainly Muslim until 1912. From 1711-1835, Ahmad Karamanli was the leader of Libya. In 1835 Constantinople reestablished rule. Part of the Turkish- Italian War occured during 1911-1912. After the war Italy declared annexation of Libya. Strong Cyrenaican opposition and the intervention of World - War I halted the Italian expansion beyond the coast.
